Academy Award winner (and allegedly Holywood’s highest paid actress) Angelina Jolie is back after a three year absence from our screens. And according to the audience at the Venice Film Festival who just gave her an 8 minute standing ovation after the screening of MARIA her latest movie, she is back with a bang.
The press are already full of buzz for a second Oscar for Miss Jolie for her performance playing the iconic prima donna MARIA CALLAS . Written by Stephen Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) and directed by the multi-award winning Chilean filkmker Pablo Larrian who has already carved out a reputation for tackling divas like Jackie Kennedy and Diana, Princess of Wales.
The film follows the life story of the world’s greatest opera singer, Maria Callas, during her final days in 1970s Paris, which gives them great scope featuring Ms Callas fiery temper and her love of high drama. Even in the first trailer below she asks her servant to ‘book me an apontment with a hairdresser who will not speak and also Book me a Table at a Cafe where the waiters know who I am : Im in the mood for a little adulation’
But if you are actually in Venice right now for the Fest and bump into Miss Jolie chose your words carefully otherwise you may get your head bitten off.. Because also in Venice right now promoting his own movie is the last Mr Jolie aka Brad Pitt. Its wonderful to see Ms Jolie burst into tears because of the standing ovation, but another if its caused by Mr Piit parading his new ‘love’ 26-year old jewelry designer Ines de Ramon on his arm.
