Dictionary.com offers a rather pretentious definition of the word that we love to bandy around : camp which they say is something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of its being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenuous and sentimental.
queerguru can explain ‘camp’ much better than that. Here’s the most perfect example with Adam West, the original (and for us the ONLY) Batman in a 1970’s television variety show when he very painfully does a song and dance routine. Not that Mr West has any idea at all, but this performance of his is as camp as a row of tents.
