Each week queerguru takes a brief look at some of the big things that have made us smile and get a real ‘high five’ aka the ice cream emoji, and at the other end of the scale, those things that have really pissed us off and get a very big thumbs downs aka the famous ‘poop’ emoji.
This week’s include :
111 Methodists Minsters who publicly came out telling their own Church Authorities that their ‘don’t ask don’t tell’ policy on homosexuality is damaging to people’s souls.
Italian Parliament for finally passing a law allowing same-sex unions & for lighting up Rome’s Trevi Fountain & The Coliseum in rainbow colors to celebrate. Next up same sex marriage.
President Obama who is on our Up List most weeks, but this time specifically for issuing a sweeping directive telling every public school district in the country to allow transgender students to use the bathrooms that match their gender identity.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch for the passionate way she supports transgender rights
Ambrosia Starling the fabulous drag queen in Alabama who has been so instrumental in pushing for the State’s anti-gay Chief Justice Roy Moore to be suspended as he still refuses to allow Judges to conduct same-sex marriages. After Moore singled her out in his latest rant Starling said “Every bully always picks on the weakest kid in the room, and he thought that was going to be the drag queen. A lot of people make that mistake.”
Sadiq Kahn elected London’s new (muslim) Mayor after defeatig a very nasty racist opponent, and who also made anti-anybody-different Trump do his first U-turn andsay he would be (the only Muslim) welcome to visit the US. Kahn has pledged his support to help Hilary Clinton
Out gay former NFL player and current executive director of the You Can Play Project Wade Davis for his rather brilliant TEDx Talk in which he delved into what he calls “the mask of masculinity” and how he battled internalized homophobia for years before and after coming out of the closet.
This weeks include:
Sally Army UK Commissioner Clive Lewis for his internal policies actively banning gay people from serving as officers, unless they remain celibate.
Evangelist Franklin Graham for protesting that the Stonewall Inn is being made a National Monument declaring that ‘it’s a monument to sin’.
Catholic Archbishop Michele Pennisi who described the new law in Italy for same sex unions as “creeping fascism.” That’s really strong coming from a Church who embraced Mussolini and his rampant fascism in WW2 !!!!!!!!!
80 year old Republican Senator Pat Roberts of Kansas who is still after many months single handedly obstructing the confirmation of openly gay Eric Fanning as Army Secretary. Sen John McCain has declared it an abuse of senatorial privilege, which is much a politer what than how we would describe this blatant homophobia.
