Hearing the news of the death of Brigitte Bardot today at the age of 91 was a sharp reminder of how this truly French ‘superstar’ was blessed with both a remarkable talent and was also unbelievably beautiful. Looking through the volumes of photographs that have resurfaced today has shaken us to the core as we remember what a cultural force she was as one of the best-known symbols of the sexual revolution.

Bardot, often referred to as B.B., was a former actress, model, singer, and animal rights activist who in the 1950s and 1960s was the most famous sex symbol in the world for her beauty, sensuality, and signature blonde hair. She starred in 47 films, performed in several musicals and recorded several albums with hit singles in France, but even though she retired from acting in 1973 she remained an icon of French cinema.   In 1985 she was awarded the Legion of Honour .
