If you have been waiting for Queerguru to have its own Sports Editor. then don’t hold your breath. Sports are one of the last bastions of homophobia. For example, in its 107-year history, the US NFL (football) has had only 16 players who have come out as gay/bisexual. That includes Carl Nassib, the only active NFL player to publicly come out as gay, doing so on June 21, 2021, while playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. He retired from the NFL on September 6, 2023, leaving the league with no active openly gay players.
It’s even worse Down Under. Australian Rules Football is 167 years old, and there is only one former player who has publicly come out as gay (Leigh Ryswyk in March 2026), and one who has publicly come out as bisexual (Mitch Brown in August 2025).
The whole situation is puzzling to us, especially when you consider there are so many players we would gladly welcome into our community with open arms. Especially if they are all hot as Mitch Brown.
Here he is making an appearance in the NSFW music video for rising Australian pop artist ANDY’s new single ‘can’t wait’. The highly provocative video is filled with homoerotic sports-related visuals, such as locker room showering, wrestling, and in one particularly steamy visual, Brown spits Gatorade into ANDY’s mouth before kissing him.
ANDY told Queerguru that he wanted the track itself to feel primal, mixing football chants and celebrations with personal recordings taken from the artist’s own sex tapes to create the desired effect of “a constant push and pull.” Starring alongside Brown is former rugby league player Ian Roberts, who was the first high-profile sportsperson to come out publicly as gay. Both Brown and Roberts were attached to the initial concept of the music video, with ANDY saying “they are the message” and their histories are an integral part of it.
Brown told us, “I spent so much of my playing career being conscious of what I said, how I behaved, and what people might assume about me, and now I’m on a footy field, although a different code, kissing another man for a music video. There’s a nice full-circle feeling to that.”
