At World Pride Amsterdam, the ZERO FLAGS PROJECT represent the 63 Countries where HOMOSEXUALITY IS STILL ILLEGAL

With the (queer) World applauding the overwhelming success of WORLD PRIDE in Amsterdam ….thanks to some superb organisation and the support of HM The Queen (the REAL one) there is one event in particular that we are applauding.  NO, it’s not gay royalty duo of Madonna and Kylie who blew us all away; it’s actually an installation at Museumplein that you need to know about.

The Zero Flags Project consists of 63 flags representing 63 countries where people are punished for who they love or how they identify. It’s a worldwide statement about what freedom actually means. Homosexuality is in the criminal code in 63 countries.  A quarter of the world’s population, around 2 billion people, live in a country where homosexuality is punishable by law. In 11 of these countries the penalty for homosexuality is death and in 2 countries the death penalty has recently been carried out.

The Zero Flags Project is not just art; it’s a countdown until the only flag remaining is the rainbow flag and the whole world lives in sexual- and gender freedom.  In this, they work together with organisations such as Pride Amsterdam, ILGA, the UNHCR, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the Equal Rights Coalition. After World Pride they will continue our countdown … with our help
