The Queerguru Editorial Office is located in both Provincetown and Miami Beach and in both places are near neighbors are Alex Guerra and Stephen Ginez. In Miami they run the highly successful Hotel Gaythering unquestionably the sexiest queer hotel you will ever find. Both of them share a passion for art …. particularly queer art….. a genre that is so often neglected even when the mega Art Basel takes over the whole city each December.
So Guerra and Ginez decided to put their money where their mouths are and a few years back set up a satellite show every December called ART GAYSEL in their Hotel. It focuses on giving a platform to queer artists specifically producing queer art and has been a major success since day one.
Because of the city’s proximity to Central and South America, they have invited relatively unknown Latino and Hispanic queer artists and provided them with their first showcase in the US.
We share Guerra and Ginez’s passion for both queer art and their show and are so happy to be able to lend our support. Here’s an interview from one of their first Art Gaysel’s..
Then last year Guerra and Ginez fell in love with Provincetown and immediately bought a house here. It didn’t take them very long to immerse themselves in the art community and decided to invite seven local queer artists to take part in Art Gaysel 2022 in Miami last December. Here’s our interview with one of them … Melissa Wilkinson the only queer woman artist in the group
Now for their first full summer here in PTown, Guerra and Ginez are curating their first Art Gaysel in town. To be held during Gay Pride Week from June 2 – 4. at the refurbished Crews Quarters Boarding House, this free exhibition will be open daily from 10a to 4p and it will then reopen (after Tea Dance) each evening from 6:30p to 10p.
The artists participating include Gio Black Peter, Daniel Ortizn, Tawnie Silva, Pietro Spirito, Manual Nanouris, Patrick MIZUMOTO, James Miille, Dan Halm, Erick Medina, Chris Molina, Adam Chuck, Beniji Alexander Guerra
Art Gaysel also includes Queer Art Partner Galleries & events featuring additional art shows all throughout Provincetown that weekend:
