Being Queer is never as easy as you think. Just as you about to graduate with your Masters Degree (or Mistress?) ‘they’ throw something new at you to get your head around. Today its ANDROGYNOSEXUAL. It turns out an androgynosexual is attracted to people who possess both masculine and feminine characteristics. AND……according to a new report by dating app Feeld, it was the fastest-growing sexuality of 2024, with use of the label up by over 250%.
So a little overwhelmed by this new ‘discovery’ we decided to check it out with our LGBTQIA+ Wiki. They define an androgynosexual (which may also be spelled androgynesexual) as ‘a person who has sexual attraction exclusively towards androgynous individuals or androgynes.’ Like linsexual (WHAT?) it can also refer to ‘someone who is attracted to both men and women, particularly those with an androgynous appearance.’
For those of you who need to know more (!) we are told that Androgyny – a combination of the Ancient Greek ‘andro’, meaning man, and ‘gyne’, meaning woman – describes the possession of both masculine and feminine characteristics. Although androgynosexual attraction can encompass identities like bigender, gender neutral, and non-binary, ‘the exact limits of what is “androgynous in nature” can be decided by the user.’
Remember the simple old days when we only had to explain to the outside world what ‘GAY” was……(sigh)
