One of our favourite queer events is gearing up for its 2020 edition. And What? Queer Arts. Festival will be back with more emerging talents and international luminaries from the world of Queer Culture than ever before. It is an exciting mix of real talent that Andrew Ellerby the Artistic Director aptly describes as Queer Arts For the Hearts of London
This years’ Festival is bold and beautiful and presents 15 international premieres and 20 London firsts with art, performance, theatre, alt-drag and so much more with 25 events across 11 London venues. They promise that it includes artists and work that is heady, political, hilarious, heart-breaking and mind-expanding. And naturally a great deal of fun too.
Here are just a very few of the highlights that QUEERGURU are really looking forward too.
From San Francisco underground larger-than-life drag superstar PEACHES CHRIST who is joined by the legendary John Water’s film star MINK STOLE for a two women show about fandom, obsession and fame in IDOL WORSHIP (photo by Jaq C )
MISS COCO PERU, whom we have had the pleasure of interviewing a couple of times, will be telling her hilarious stories in her brand new show HAVE YOU HEARD? packed full of her trademark monologues, songs and wit, gravitas and grimaces. (Check out our filmed interview HERE)
Plus JOHN EPPERSON and his glamorous alter-ago LYPSINKA are bringing their THE FABULOUS LYPSINKA SHOW which shows why they are still THE queen of lip-sync after 40 years at the top. (photo by Steven Menendez)
We are also so looking forward to finally being able to see HARRY CLAYTON-WRIGHT , the best and dare we say trashiest thing to come out of Blackpool for years . He will be performing in his runaway Edinburgh hit, the award-winning SEX EDUCATION (pictured above in his wedding dress)
East End queer auteur JOSEPH WILSON is presenting an exclusive premiere of their immersive exhibition SHANNON; BITE ME based on 65 year old San Fran trans woman Shannon Pat, it explores social isolation, Queer identity and obsession. This to us is a another must-see event
And finally Asian Queer cabaret THE BITTEN PEACH the pan-asian group of drag queens, kings and animals from the Far East
