When Ariana Debose collects her Academy Award to add to her Golden Globe for her superb performance as Anita in West Side Story, we know what classic musical she should revive next. On a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live she played a very ‘contemporary’ version of Maria with her particular take on The Sound of Music.
Not only would she be so perfect for the role, but can you imagine the hissy fit the Catholic Church would have with an out proud queer person playing a nun?
Regardless of that, we are so proud that Ariana will join a very elite group of members of the LGBTQ community who have won an Oscar. This list is still a little hazy as many of the actors on it were not always publically out of the closet so we can only guess …. albeit quite accurately
