After 20 years BOY GEORGE is back on Broadway : and this time the Show is an unqualified Hit

Boy George is back on Broadway after 20 years since his (less than successful) debut.  Back then he was starring as Leigh Bowery in Taboo the partly imagined story that he had written of a group of club ‘names’ set in the location of what was London’s most fashionable nightclub.

The club had been started by Leigh Bowery  an outrageous performance artist  and promoter and Boy George  had been a regular habitue

The UK production had a successful run at the newly opened Venue Theatre in 2002 and attracted the attention of Rosie O’Donnell who took it upon herself to produce it on Broadway.  Despite the fact she got Charles Busch to completely re-write the show and had a cast that included Raúl EsparzaSarah Uriarte BerryJeffrey Carlson, and Cary Shields, it was a mega-flop.  O’Donnell reportedly lost her entire $10 million investment in the project.

Now Boy George is back and it looks like he is definitely going to enjoy this time on Broadway. He has joined the cast of Baz Luhrmann‘s Moulin Rouge! The Musical the winner of ten Tony (and countless other)  Awards.  To make him feel even more welcome, they added some of the iconic songs of Culture Club were added to the show’s curtain call MegaMix!

PS George will be in the Show until May 12, 2024.
