It’s hard to believe, but the truth is, living in the US these days, every new day brings news much worse than the day before. With an Administration that has dispensed with any sense of morality and believes that they can lie about EVERY SINGLE THING that we …… and that now includes other sovereign nations …… must believe any single ridiculous statement they make ….. or lie down and play dead. And actually, since yesterday, even be shot dead.
This Administration has purposedly militarised US Immigration Customs Enforcement and given it unrestricted power that even the traditional military forces do not have. They have made joining ICE attractive to basically a bunch of uncontrollable bullies and thugs who are normally unemployable, but love the fact they automatically get a $50,000 sign-on bonus; student loans are forgiven; unlimited paid overtime and enhanced benefits. Oh yes they get to be armed too. If that is not worrying enough, the training period for new recruits has been cut in half to a mere 6 weeks.
Then to cap it all they are led by Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem the far-wing ex Gov of South Dakota whose resume included naming her state one of the first to enact trigger laws banning abortions; collaborated with the energy company TransCanada Corporation to develop anti-protest legislation, which she signed into law in 2019; was an Covid anti vaxer who was responsible for one of the largest COVID-19 outbreaks in the U.S. in South Dakota. Not exactly sure whst she did to piss off all the Native Indians in the State as all nine tribes of South Dakota banned Noem from entering any tribal lands, prohibiting her from entering almost 20% of South Dakota. And we know from her memoir Noem has no problems dispensing with the truth like when she lied about meeting foreign leaders
Yesterday there were an an estimated 2,000 ICE agents and officers from Homeland Security Investigations to the Twin Cities area. Some of them were on East 34th Street and Portland Avenue in the Central neighbourhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday where Renee Nicole Good – a 37-year-old queer mother, wife and US citizen was shot dead by one of the masked agents. They then refused all offers of immediate help from nearby doctors.
Incidentally shooting at a vehicle is generally illegal and carries severe penalties, often involving charges like assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, or vehicular homicide. What made this very sad death ….. aka murder …. even worse was despite the whole even being caught very clearly on video, Noem was so quick to blame Good as a terroist, and Tne Orange Man stuck to his line that Renee Good was trying to run the Agent over.
The evidence is so clear that it is completely indisputable and should be the subject first to an immediate apology to Renne’s, and secondly an independent inquiry . NPR identified the ICE agent who fired the gun as Jonathan Ross by cross-referencing court records with details about the officer released by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem at a Wednesday news conference. Noem — without naming the officer — said he had been in a previous confrontation with a protester. Plus as in the tradition of good governance ( remember those days?) the next speech Noem should be making is announcing her resignation.
