The Chinese may have declared 2024 as The Year of The Wood Dragon but we are here to tell them that have got it so wrong. It is very much the year of ANDREW SCOTT. The award-winning Irish actor seems to be having the time of his life. He starred opposite Paul Mescal in the (very hot) romantic drama All of Us Strangers. for which he collected a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama and zillion more fans.
Earlier this year named the openly gay Scott was named No. 4 on the Independent newspaper’s Pride List for 2024 …. he had coincidentally starred in the movie of that name in 2014. This year he played the title role in a Netflix’s adaption of Patricia Highsmith’s RIPLEY to great acclaim. Tom Ripley is a down-at-the-heels con-man hired by a wealthy man to convince his prodigal son to return home from Italy, and Highsmith deliberately made Ripley’s sexuality elusive.
Scott has become almost a regular at London’s National Theatre, so much so that there are now TWO movies of his performances currently in selected UK and US theaters. In a radical new version of Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, he brings multiple characters to life which the Evening Standard declared was ‘an acting masterclass from Andrew Scott‘ and for which he won Critics Circle Best Actor Award.
Plus the National Theatre has seen fit to re-release Andrew Scott’s award winning performance in Noel Cowards’ Present Laughter. This cult classic play is about star actor Garry Essendine’s colorful life which is in danger of spiralling out of control as he prepares to embark on an overseas tour. This peace of pure theatrical heaven is also playing in selected UK & US movie theaters now , and is totally unmissable
