And the Tony goes to ????

war3

Looks like Broadway is going to be packed with iconic Divas next year, as following hot on the news that Bette Midler will be starring in Hello Dolly, comes the announcement that the Chicago Goodman Theatre’s summer sold-out hit War Paint will be reopening in NY next April.  The musical is based on the true  story of the legendary rivalry between two cosmetic industry titans  Helena Rubinstein and Estee Lauder who are played by two fabulous two-time Tony Award winners Patti Lupone (Evita, Gypsy) and Christine Ebersole (42nd Street, Grey Gardens).

war-2

War Paint reunites Ms Ebersole with the same team that created “Grey Gardens” team with Doug Wright (book), Scott Frankel (music),  Michael Korie (lyrics) and Michael Greif (direction), and the show received rav reviews for its premiere run. However that is really not that important, as the chance to see both this song-belting superstars together on one stage is reason enough to book a flight to N.Y. now.

war1

War Paint begins previews at the Nederlander Theater on March 7 prior to an April 6 opening.

P.S. If you cannot wait until then to see a Broadway Diva, then Nathan Lane has just opened in a revival of The Front Page. However as good as he is, Mr Lane is still no match for Patti and Christine.
