queerguru usually avoids Film Festival first nights as programmers often opt for some high-profile fluffy crowd-pleaser, so we were really thrilled to learn that MIFO’s Program Director Joe Bilancio has actually selected such a stunning movie for the Opening Gala of their Fort Lauderdale edition this October .
In 1990, seven young male dancers joined Madonna on her very controversial Blonde Ambition World Tour. On stage and in the iconic film ‘Truth or Dare’ they showed the world how to express yourself. Now, 25 years later, documentarians Ester Gould & Reijer Zwaans revisit the men to talk about their lives during and after the tour in the totally enthralling ‘Strike A Pose’.
Heartbreaking and very touching this completely compelling film is also a reflection on how far the gay community has journeyed in the past 25 years.
Beg steal or borrow to get a ticket especially as Kevin Stea, one of the dancers featured will be at the Special Screening at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale on Friday October 7th 2016, 8:00 pm. http://mifofilm.com/
Ester Gould the co-director talked to queerguru aka Roger Walker-Dack earlier this summer, when the movie was premiered in P. Town.
