A new(ish) rather fabulous queer magazine called Loverboy has just come onto our radar and we must confess to being really impressed. Started by Brit journalist Michael Turnball who has been penning pieces for the likes of Arena and Attitude for years, it contains the most creative and edgy queercentric content that we have read for quite some time. It’s smart and sassy and thinks out of the box on the subjects that it covers and the people it interviews.
The focus is on fashion, music, entertainment …….some of it decidedly of an adult nature , and all in a style and design that is very definitely upmarket.
Kudos for a section called Love Is …. where they profile an eclectic assortment of hot looking men from dancers to bloggers that don’t usually inhabit the pages of a glossy gay magazine.
With way too many of the established gay magazines and online websites relying on just churning out yesterday’s news like lemmings, it’s exciting to see a fresh new approach to produce something innovative that will delight and engage independent-thinking queer minds
Issue 3 is just out …..in either digital or printed form …. evidently there was a year’s gap between this and Issue 2, but hey, really good things are always worth waiting for.
P.S. If we have one fault of Loverboy to comment on (and we wouldn’t be gay men if we didn’t) then it is Turnball’s unhealthy obsession with Mariah Carey. LOL
