Two of Queerguru’s favorite openly gay actors are planning to play a tribute to the late great playwright Terrence McNally who died recently
On Monday 8th April. Zachary Quinto and Jesse Tyler Ferguson will headline a special reading of Terrence McNally’s play Lips Together, Teeth Apart which will be live streamed at 8 pm EST on Broadway.com and its Facebook and YouTube channels
The play deals with issues of mortality as two straight couples spend a weekend on Fire Island in a house one of the women has inherited from her gay brother, who has died of AIDS complications. It was first produced Off-Broadway in 1991.
The event will raise funds raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund Cares/Equity Fights AIDS on which Tom Kirdahy, McNally’s husband who serves as a Trustee.
The event is been produced by Tony Award winner Eric Kuhn and also Ferguson’s husband Justin Mikita. In a statement to EW they said “Theater has always been about bringing people together. For our first livestream play reading, we couldn’t think of a playwright that represented that more than Terrence. In these uncertain times we are thrilled to partner with Broadway Cares and provide audiences some moments of relief.”
