It’s a red letter day for queer filmmakers today. Well for one in particular,. Miami born Cuban/Lebanese American Kareem Tabsch latest documentary “Mucho Mucho Amor,” is having its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
Tabsch co-directed this his fourth movie with Cristina Costantini and it tells the life story of the outrageously flamboyant Walter Mercado who recently sadly passed away The legendary Puerto Rican astrologer and TV star was fervently worshiped in Latin America where he achieved major stardom.
Like another similarly famous showman Liberace, Mercado was gay, but it was a subject that he, and most of his followers chose to publicly ignore
There is already such a buzz around Mucho Mucho Amor and Netflix has swept in and purchased it even before the Premiere . They have plans to release it later this .
Queerguru was fortunate enough to be an Associate Producer on Tabsch’s very first movie CHERRY POP but our friendship with this hilariously funny anglophile dates way before this . When Tabsch was the Director of the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival some eons ago, we assisted with the Programming. Our adventure filled trips to view new queer movies at Sundance for some years were sheer joys , even though he insisted on introducing me as the Oldest Intern in the Film Business.
Look out for our interview with Tabsch coming up soon, and for our review of this great new film of his. Meanwhile we just want to celebrate his achievement of his World Premiere today and are not the least bit piqued that we were not invited. Just saying.,
