‘When All Is Said ‘ brings Black Trans theatre direct into your home

When All Is Said is a collection of five short plays, by five Black trans writers, delivered over the phone. Curated by Travis Alabanza and Anthony Gray, and directed by Emily Aboud and Leian John-Baptiste, When All Is Said offers you the opportunity to sit back and listen, as these worlds and journeys are brought to life.

Phone in from anywhere to experience five powerful plays by Black Trans Writers

The five plays that make up When All Is Said were written by Travis Alabanza, Felix Mufti-Wright, Octavia Nyombi, Ebun Sodipo and Campbell X, and will be brought to life by actors Alexis Meshida, Libra Teejay, Ishmael Kirby, Kenya Sterling and Tyler Luke Cunningham.  Each writer brings such a unique perspective and really adds to the landscape of LGBT+ work in this country. It’s lovely for them to be curated alongside each other for this project

“When All is Said is a chance to ask writers to confess secrets over the phone. So often when Black trans writers are asked to write, it is only about our identities. I wanted our writers to come up with their topics through the idea of secrets and intimacy, which goes hand in hand with the telephone. We leaned into what it means to have that intimate experience of one person to one person“.

  1. A long taxi ride becomes a winding long journey into the past and the histories that shape us…
  2. A phone call conversation opens up a powerful set of revelations about incarceration and the criminal justice system…
  3. A university campus becomes a breeding ground for anti-trans hostility…
  4. The child of enslaved parents asks what freedom can really look like…
  5. A Black trans man embraces his queer manhood by challenging his own toxic masculinity.
  6. Contained within each of these stories, the secrets and desires of Black trans individuals across time and space rise to the surface, yearning to be heard.

HOW IT ALL WORKS:

  • When All Is Said is performed directly to your mobile phone/landline – whichever number you provide at booking.
  • Audiences do not need to attend the theatre for this performance.
  • Audiences are welcome to listen wherever – ideally with good signal and be uninterruptible for the performance (maybe not ideal for when you’re doing the grocery shopping).
  • The digital stage manager will dial audiences and their number will not be visible to the performer or be used for anything except the performance.
  • Audiences will randomly experience one of the five shows – and the only way to hear a specific playwright’s work for sure – is to book all five.

When All Is Said is a listening experience, all audiences need to do is answer their phone…
