Abloh was one of the very few Black persons to be an artistic director at a French luxury fashion house, and in 2018 he was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.
He will also be missed by the queer community for being one of our best allies. He joined Naomi Cambell in signing a letter supporting gay rights in the notorious homophobe Ghana condemning the forced closure of an LGBTQ center The letter offered support to those affected and called on Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo, and other political leaders to offer protection to the LGBTQ+ community.
In 2020, he established the Virgil Abloh “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund. Abloh raised $1 million for the scholarships which will be managed by the Fashion Scholarship Fund to assist Black students
