Online Theater during the COVID 19 Lockdown is getting bolder and better. This week sees a star-studded World Premiere reading of Neil LaBute’s new adaptation of Uncle Vanya, perhaps the most poignant of Anton Chekhov’s masterpieces:
This bitterly comic meditation on frustrated love and the pitiful wages of self-sacrifice in late-19th-century Russia stars out gay actor Alan Cumming (Cabaret}. He is joined by Samira Wiley (The Handmaid’s Tale) and Constance Wu (Fresh Off the Boat) who lead a top-drawer cast that also includes Manik Choksi, K. Todd Freeman, Mia Katigbak, Anson Mount and the great Ellen Burstyn. Directed by Danya Taymor (Heroes of the Fourth Turning) and Gabriel Ebert serves as narrator.
This is part of Broadway’s Best Shows presents Spotlight on Plays, a starry series of livestream readings of Broadway’s best plays to benefit The Actors Fund.
