British fans of ballet’s ‘bad boy’ Sergei Polunin, unquestionably one of the greatest dancers of his generation (and one of the hottest too) are in for a real treat. When the new documentary on his life from filmmaker Steven Cantor, and simply called Dancer, premieres in the UK on March 2nd 2017 at the London Palladium, it will be accompanied by a live performance from the Ukrainian superstar. Even better news is the fact that it will be simultaneously broadcast live to 200 cinemas throughout the UK at the same time.
When you view the movie the very first thing you notice about the young Polunin is his deep set of piercing eyes which somehow seem to unnerve him as much as the people he stares at. He cuts a striking figure shirtless displaying a profusion of tattoos and his taut sinewy body with perfect abs clad in figure hugging tights looking every inch the ‘bad boy of ballet‘ that he is now universally recognized as. Of course, Polunin wasn’t always like this as this new profile from starts with clearly showing an eager-to-please charming little boy growing up in his native Ukraine.
It’s a fascinating story (click here for our full review) which culminates with his dance choreographed to Hozier’s Take Me to Church and filmed by David Chapelle that went viral (over 16 million hits so far) and introduced Polunin to whole new wider audience outside of ballet and gave the dancer the incentive to think that he has still a need to dance.
