Two music superstar biopics for the big screen THE BEATLES and MICHAEL (as in Jackson)

This current trend for biopics about music ‘stars’ continues with two new ones heading our way.  First is Academy Award-winning Sam Mendes  (American Beauty), whose eagerly awaited four separate movies are about The Beatles, the biggest band in history, one from the perspective of each member. It was revealed that he has cast four of the hottest young actors around: Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn will play George HarrisonBarry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson will play John Lennon.

However, the news of the star-studded casting didn’t sit well with everybody. Someone posted on twitter  “One of the biggest things about the Beatles’ essence and success was that they were just four young boys from Liverpool with a massive passion for music, so casting four grown men in their late 20’s/early 30’s when they weren’t even 30 at the end of the Beatles ruins that magic.”   Personally we love the idea BUT we will all have to wait until April 2028 when they are due to be released to see how fab he has made ‘The Fab Four’

Meanwhile filmmaker Antoine Fuqua  (The Equalizer), who has also directed several music videos, has just helmed “Michael,” a highly anticipated biopic tracing Michael Jackson’s journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his ascent as a global superstar.  He cast Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, in his first major film performance. The film features an impressive ensemble cast featuring Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson, Nia Long as matriarch Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as entertainment lawyer John Branca and Laura Harrier as music producer Suzanne de Passe. It also includes Kat Graham as Diana Ross and Larenz Tate as Motown founder Berry Gordy.   MICHAEL is scheduled for theatrical and IMAX release on April 24 2026
