Hot on the heels of Sam Feder’s excellent Netflix documentary DISCLOSURE comes breaking news about another investigation into the ‘plight’ of the trans community in the US. Feder’s film is an unprecedented, eye-opening look at transgender depictions in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. Whereas TRANS IN TRUMPLAND will be a four-part series that follows four people as they engage in the fight for transgender equality in the United States during the Trump presidency whose administration has made repeated attempts to roll back trans protections.
Told through a road trip narrative across remote parts of the United States, the film explores the transgender experience in politically hostile states. Set against the backdrop of increasing rates of transphobic violence, it will show the grim realities that trans Americans face.
Both documentaries have impeccable qualifications with immensely qualified crew and production teams. Trans in TL counts the transgender actress Trace Lysette (Transparent) as Executive Producer alongside the trans icon Miss Major Griffin-Gracy.
Lysette said in a statement to ABC News “I’m excited to join this brilliant trans-led team and to showcase the resistance and resiliency of our trans siblings during this trying time. I hope this series can make a difference and that we can look back on this period in the future and be proud of the fact that we always find a way, we always push through against all odds.”
The series, created by New York City-based TransWave Films and directed by trans filmmaker Tony Zosherafatain is produced by Jamie DiNicola. Production has finished but no date has been set for it’s release yet ….. watch this space.
