TOO MUCH MUSIC : the sheer genius of Jake Shears

Social Media is currently screaming that Jake Shears is Back …….but we were never really aware he had gone anywhere. Yes, one of our very queer singer/songwriters hardly has a prolific output like others, but when he releases new music, we know immediately it was worth the wait.  Jake, the frontman  of seminal NYC indie glam-pop greats Scissor Sisters, has just given us a taste of his forthcoming solo album with a fab new single “TOO MUCH MUSIC.’

In the music video directed by  ‘Too Much Music’ Shears can be seen making out with two halves of a couple, a man and a woman. After some drama ensues Jake eventually rides off into the sunset with a new man.to ‘Too Much Music’ Shears can be seen making out with two halves of a couple, a man and a woman. Now London based since the pandemic, Shears recorded the album there and between the US and Portugal with a starry guest list of contributors  who include Kylie Minogue, Big Freedia and Amber Martin, with a cameo from Jane Fonda and some timeless words of wisdom from Iggy Pop

In Jake’s own words, “‘Last Man Dancing’ is my ultimate house party. Presented in two distinct halves, it chronicles a night’s journey from sing-along dance anthems into the deeper, darker corners of my living room. Electro-pop, tech-house, poppers-fueled disco, it’s MY afters and YOU just got the address. We can be as loud and late as we want… and while not everyone might make it to the end, it’s the last ones dancing who are rewarded with the most magical moments of the evening.”

The album Last Man Dancing, will be released on June 2nd, 2023 on his new label home of Mute.
