World AIDS Day …… December 1st ….. is not just about our community celebrating and honoring the lives of all those that we lost during the pandemic. It is also a day to advocate for AIDS awareness, dismantling stigmas, and advocating for the prevention and understanding of HIV/AIDS within the community.
To this end, The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in Las Vegas, in collaboration with The Center and photographer Matthew Michael McCarthy, will debut a compelling photo exhibit titled “The Sisters Portrait Project.” This collection of 12 evocative portraits serves as a tribute to the relentless efforts of the Sisters in educating the community about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
On Dec. 1, the Sisters will be busy with Bar Ministry, a Bar Crawl to all LGBTQ+ Bars in Las Vegas. Beginning at 6 p.m., each bar visited will serve as a poignant backdrop for a vigil – a moment of reflection to remember those whose lives have been touched by the disease. Then on
Dec. 2, the Sisters will host a stirring display of unity with a human red ribbon at The Nunnery. From 12 to 4 p.m., attendees are encouraged to join the ribbon, enjoy refreshments and stand together in remembrance of friends and family who have succumbed to HIV/AIDS. By incorporating the red ribbon into the human ribbon at The Nunnery, the Sisters aim to breathe life into this symbol, emphasizing the importance of community and compassion. The unveiling of this specially curated exhibit will take place at 5:30 p.m. at The Nunnery located at 900 E. Karen Ave.
