Matt Houghton’s short documentary LANDLINE is probably the best LGBTQ film that has just been released on global streaming platforms by BFI Flare London’s LGBTQ Film Festival in conjunction with the British Council as part of #FiveFilms4Freedom program called LOVE IS A HUMAN RIGHT.
Houghton’s very poignant narrative which tugs away at the heartstrings is about the plight and loneliness of gay farmers in the UK, who number far more than what most of us would ever have guessed. He tells his story through calls to the helpline that Keith Inerson set up in 2010 and since then has helped hundreds of gay farmers. The Helpline still gets a least one new caller every week.
Coming hot on the heels of the best LGBT love story of 2017 Gods Own Country, it serves to remind us that a happy-ever-after ending like that is sadly nothing like reality.
