Actor Andre Jordan ( he’s the one wearing the questionable swan shirt above) wrote to queerguru and told us that he would probably like The Queens Project web series that he was in. He was so wrong. We didn’t like it, we actually loved it!
Having missed out on Season One that debuted back in 2015 …(so you couldn’t write to us then Andre?) … after one quick glance of the first episode of season two, we had to cancel our plans for the next hour or two and just binge watch the whole thing right from the very beginning.
It’s the tale of two queens who live in Queens NY and are besties who came to city together to be big Broadway stars. Ash (Ken Arpino) and Gabe (BJ Gruber) may never fulfill their dreams (yet) but they are at least the stars in their own hysterically funny real-life dramas as they deal with the reality of having to say goodbye to their ingenue days as they reach the grand old age of 30.
This fast-paced real treat of a comedy finds humor in the everyday lives of this metropolitan pair as they deal with getting by in the city with limited resources and (dare we say) limited talent too. And of course even when you are as good looking as they are, there are still the dramas of falling in and out of bed (and even love), and of all the other people in their lives too. The new series starts off with the possibility that Ash and Gabe’s relationship may alter too, BUT you’ll have to check that out yourself.
Created by actor/writer Arpino who gives the very distinct impression that this wonderfully enchanting observation of life is probably based on his own, loosely or not. It has such a ring of authenticity about it, and has us routing for him and his eager-to-please assortment of charming gay geeks right to the final credits roll.
With a delightful talented cast (that included Andre to), a witty script full of perfect queenie one-liners, and high production values, The Queens Project, is a wee gem of a series. Go watch.
