THE NEW LOOK an emotionally thrilling TV series of how fashion icon Christian Dior and his contemporaries, including Coco Chanel, launched modern fashion after WW2

 

Smack in the middle of next season’s Paris Fashion Week in February 2024,  Apple TV will be screening their highly anticipated brand new, 10-episode gripping historical drama series THE NEW LOOK.  It’s inspired by true events in the 1940s when the leading French Fashion designers kickstarted their businesses after the end of WW2

It centers on Christian Dior one of the most important couturiers of the twentieth century who launched  his very first post-war collection in which he introduced the “New Look.” Featuring rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and a very full skirt, the “New Look” celebrated ultra-femininity and opulence in women’s fashion.  It also features designer Coco Chanel who was a well-known anti-semite and Nazi supporter and who had a relationship during the war with the Nazi officer Baron Hans Günther von Dincklage.

The TV series is set against the World War II Nazi occupation of Paris and focuses on the pivotal moment in the twentieth century when the French city led the world back to life through Dior its fashion icon. As he rises to prominence with his groundbreaking, iconic imprint of beauty and influence, Chanel’s reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer is put into jeopardy. The interwoven saga follows the surprising stories of Dior’s contemporaries and rivals from Chanel to Pierre Balmain, Cristóbal Balenciaga and more; and, provides a stunning view into the atelier, designs, and clothing created by Christian Dior through collaboration with the House of Dior.

The series’ very impressive  ensemble cast  features Emmy Award winner Ben Mendelsohn as ‘Christian Dior’; Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche as ‘Coco Chanel’; Maisie Williams as ‘Catherine Dior’; John Malkovich as ‘Lucien Lelong’; Emily Mortimer as ‘Elsa Lombardi’ and Claes Bang as ‘Spatz.’ The highly anticipated series, written, executive produced and directed by Todd Kessler, and will make its global debut with the first three episodes on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 on Apple TV+, followed by one episode every Wednesday through April 3.
