The Dorian Film Awards 2023 : the most diverse (and queer) awards that recognize the best

Too many awards shows these days are more about the drama and the politics of who didn’t get nominated and who didn’t win.  Maybe we can heap the blame on the Hollywood Foreign Press for years of squeaked Golden Globes, or maybe the pressure on ‘diversity’ has grown so much that this is now the real possibility that actually the best man (or woman) will not win in order that it can be seen to politically correct.

We are not taking a  stance on this BUT after Beyonce broke the record for winning the most Grammys (32 to date) we thought her husband Jay Z’s very public comments on Harry Styles (having beaten her to Album of The Year)  were not only inappropriate but against the whole spirit of receiving awards.

That said …. and got off our collective Queerguru chest, we want to celebrate the one set of Awards that we always so very are proud to be associated with i.e.  The DORIAN FILM AWARDS  which are the gift of GALECA  ( The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics of which we are a member).  They are not only the very epitome of diversity but include categories that recognize queer …. and even camp … and unsung performances and new talent all of which are very dear to our hearts.

We do not always concur with the choices of winners but we appreciate the selection of all the nominees in every category.  And God forbid we should ever go on a public rampage like Jay Z!

About GALECA and the Dorian Film and TV Awards

Formed in 2009, GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics and its Dorian Awards honor film (in winter) and TV (autumn) from mainstream to LGBTQIA+. The 501 c 6 nonprofit aims to remind bigots, bullies and our own communities that the world often looks to the Q+ eye for unique and powerful entertainment. GALECA also advocates for better pay, access and respect for its members, especially those in our most underrepresented and vulnerable segments
