The continuing transitioning of Brit singer/songwriter Sam Smith with their latest music video ‘I’m Not Here To Make Friends’

In March 2014  Brit singer/songwriter Sam Smith had an international breakthrough hit with the song Stay With Me. Two months later Smith came out as gay, and when the song won Smoth a Grammy for the Record of the Year, they said “I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys.

The following year  Smith’s and Jimmy Napes‘s song “Writing’s on the Wall“, the theme for the James Bond film Spectre  won the Golden Globe Award and the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Then another two years later in In October 2017, Smith came out as genderqueer,[106] saying, “I feel just as much a woman as I am a man” and speaking of a period in their youth where they “didn’t own a piece of male clothing and would wear full makeup while attending school”. In September 2019, they announced a decision to come out as non-binary and change their gender pronouns to they/them, stating, “After a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out…

This transition has greatly affected both their appearance but also their music.  Here with very poignant lyrics is Smith’s latest music video ‘Im Not Here To Make Friends”

If you can’t love yourself
How in the hell you gon’ love somebody else?
Can I get a amen in here?
