On the same day that the Japanese Supreme Court refused to allow same-sex marriage again …..(they are the only G7 country where it is still illegal), NETFLIX has announced the return of The Boyfriend. It’s Japan’s first ever same-sex dating series, and it follows ten queer men who band together to live in a beach house and work at a coffee truck for a month, as they begin a quest for love – both romantic and platonic. This season, the beloved Green Room relocates to wintertime Hokkaido, where ten new boys will share a home for roughly two months amid quiet, snow-covered landscapes. As in Season 1, the boys will work together to operate the peppermint Coffee Truck — but the stories that unfold this winter will take on a more delicate hue: carefully built connections, gentle moments of honesty, and love that slowly grows in the cold.
Building on its core themes of tender relationships, honest conversations, and the intimate space where love and friendship blur, The Boyfriend continues its mission to depict romance with sincerity and emotional depth. Season 2 welcomes viewers once again into a warm, heartfelt journey — one unique to this series.
Following its breakout debut in 2024, The Boyfriend captivated audiences with its wholesome portrayal of romance, friendship, and self-discovery among nine young men living together in the Green Room and navigating their feelings in real time. Its deeply empathetic storytelling and global fan response paved the way for a highly anticipated second season, with the emcee lineup of MEGUMI, Chiaki Horan, Thelma Aoyama, Durian Lollobrigida, and Yoshimi Tokui set to return.
