The Best of Binge-Worthy British TV and more

If you’ve seen all three seasons of both Ozark and Babylon Berlin and even watched Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood twice, you may actually been feeling Netflix fatigue.  Don’t worry its happened to all of us one time or another. BUT never fear , help is at hand.  At Queerguru we often find new cinematic and TV treats in our in-tray that actually turn out to be as good a their hype.

One such case is ACORN TV which started in the US in 2013 and streams world-class mysteries, dramas, and comedies from Britain and beyond.  These are shows that never pop up in any other American channels even though they are often (dare we say it?) streets ahead of many of our home-grown shows.

Take Deadwater Fell for example.  A murder thriller shot in a picturesque small Scottish one-street town that you will instantly want to move too.  It stars celebrated Scottish actor David Tennant with an extensive resume that includes a critically acclaimed performance as Hamlet, but who is probably better known as the 10th Dr Who who in real life married the daughter of the 5th Dr Who.

Tennant plays the ‘Baddie’ in this gripping four part series which like a lot of ACORN’s content is not specifically LGBT but in this case Tennant’s co-star is hunky Matthew McNulty as the local cop that we would defy anyone not to want to be handcuffed by.

We’ve moved on to HIDDEN now (sadly without Matthew McNulty!) .  Its a Welsh family drama and murder mystery  and filmed in both English and the underused Welsh language. If you can cover your eyes through gruesome murder bits, you will appreciate that the stunning under-appreciated Welsh countryside is as glorious as that if Scotland and Ireland.  After sitting trapped in our houses watching the rolling hills and lush green valleys is actually a sheer joy.

We are finding ACORN TV is a great (new to us) source for award-winning binge-worthy dramas and comedies from (mainly) English speaking countries that we couldn’t find elsewhere,  Frankly they have more than enough first- class content that will see us through quite a few Lockdowns

Check out Acorn TV HERE : its just $5.95 per month.
