Barbara Hulanicki is one of Miami Beach’s most famous residents. The legendary designer who single-handedly changed the face of British fashion back in the 1960s and 1970s’ creating the BIBA empire with her husband Stephen Fitz-Simon (known as Fitz) arrived here in the early 1980s. She came to design a nightclub for Ronnie Woods of The Rolling Stones and never left.
Her resume since then makes for exhausting reading and you can see her incredible flair in so many of Miami’s iconic hotels and more than a few celebrity mansions on which she keeps a discreet silence. That has not stopped her constant flights back to London where her services are always in such high demand by so of today’s many leading fashion houses.
Barbara has an insatiable appetite for new challenges and somehow makes being a workaholic such a matter a fact thing. If you have read one of the many books written about her then you’ll know that one of her very first loves was fashion illustrating. It kicked off her long career way back then but as she gleefully pointed out to us just the other day, it’s an art form that now is enjoying a major revival. And if anyone should know about trends it is her.
Makes perfect sense then that one (of her very many) projects right now is an Exhibit of some of her new Illustrations at The Sagamore Hotel on Miami Beach marking Women.s Month. This fabulous unmissable Barbara Hulanicki Salon Exhibit curated by Deborah Desilets opens March 16th, 2022
