The Word is out. This coming weekend Baby Jesus will be appearing In Miami. He’ll only be getting second billing as the star of the Show is the inimitable TAYLOR MAC who is worshipped far more by all of us.
For those still living in the Dark (aka Fox TV Land,) we should tell you that Taylor Mac (who uses “judy”—lowercase—as a gender pronoun) is a playwright, actor, singer-songwriter, performance artist, director and producer. You never know where this multi-talented prolific artist will pop up next. For example last year judy’s play Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus starring Nathan Lane received 7 Tony Nominations including Best Play.
Everyone we know has their own favorite judy experience Queerguru’s personal one is of judy appearing with the equally fabulous Vivian Justin Bond with their own particular rendering of “Were You There” which had us on our knees
Now on December 12th Live Arts Miami is presenting Taylor Mac’s Holiday Sauce… Pandemic! It blends music, film, burlesque and random acts of fabulousness in the most subversive and cathartic event of the season! 2020 Ibsen Award winner and MacArthur Fellow Taylor Mac aka judy invites long-time collaborators and surprise special guests (including the Baby Jesus himself) to celebrate the holidays in all of their dysfunction.
Besides Baby Jesus special guests Thornetta Davis, Stephanie Christi’an, and Tigger! Ferguson; and performers who make cameo appearances: Dusty Childers, Sister Rosemary Chicken, Sidhe Degreene, Romeo-Jay Jacinto, Glenn Marla, Travis Santell Rowland (Qween), and Timothy White Eagle.
judy reminds us of the collective power of our chosen families. and that here is more to the holidays than rampant capitalism and gift giving. In a distinctly bittersweet holiday season, There’s judy’s rampant mayhem
Then as a tribute to judy’s drag mother, each institution presenting Holiday Sauce…Pandemic! is honoring local elders, collectively referred to as the Queens, who have made a significant contribution to nurturing the LGBTQ community in their city. For this fabulous honor, judy and Live Arts Miami have selected HIV/AIDS and bisexual rights activist Luigi Ferrer, co-founder of Pridelines Youth Services.
After the premiere, there os a Sash and Sashay after-party in honor of our local “Queen” Luigi Ferrer, a virtual celebration including special appearances from Miami’s unique drag world and surprise guests from the Holiday Sauce show!
