The ever-popular Brit reality TV show Strictly Come Dancing (known just as Strictly) about to start its 19th season continues to gingerly edge forward to embrace societal differences since its conception. The Producers have just announced that John Waite the chef and TV presenter, who was the Season 3 winner of the Great British Bake Off, will be one half of the competition’s first-ever all-male pairing.
It still strikes us odd that in 2021 this should be considered a ‘ground-breaking moment’, but on the other hand, we would probably not say no if we were offered the chance to partner the 32-year-old 6′ 2″ handsome Waite. (For the record he has a life-partner already)
Talking about his new gig he said “I’m so grateful, excited, and nervous to be joining the Strictly 2021 family. I’ve been wearing sequins and jazzy attire since I was three years old and can’t wait to hurl myself, full throttle, around the most glamorous dance floor on earth,”
“What’s more exciting for me, is that I’m going to be one half of the first all-male partnership, which is a great step forward in representation and inclusion. Whoever it is I’m paired with, I hope they are up for a challenge as I want our routines to include lots of spectacular lifts!”
There has already been a female same-sex dance partnership on the Show last year with Nicola Adams and Katya Jones who, unfortunately, as Jones tested positive for Covid-19, they were forced to pull out of the competition.
