Kudos to Starbucks for this brand new award-winning advert aired on Brit TV yesterday for the first time. As so many ore Companies include our community in their advertising ( as evident during the Super Bowl), but very few ever focus on the ‘T’ in LGBTQ.
The Starbucks ad stars James a young trans man who struggles with the fact that his friends, family and corporations refuse to acknowledge his new name. It’s only when he orders a Latte at Starbucks and the Barista writes James on his cup does he finally feel a sense of freedom. It is a small step that means so very much.
If that is not enough, Starbucks get more kudus from us for the fact that they have also pledged to raise a minimum of £100,000 for UK trans youth charity Mermaids. We’ll drink to that..
