SIGHT UNSEEN a collection of new queer work at KINGS HEAD THEATRE, LONDON

The Kings Head Theatre in Islington has been such a firm favorite for nearly every London theatre-goer for decades. It is actually one of the oldest pub theatres in London having been housed in the back room of the King’s Head Pub for over 50 years.  Founded by its first Artistic Director Dan Crawford it has always been the breeding ground for  some startling new talent and premiering their work that often ends up in London’s West End or on Broadway

In 2021, Mark Ravenhill  (the writer of outstanding queer dramas such as Shopping and Fuc_king, Mother Clap’s Molly  House, and The Boy in a Dress a musical he wrote with Robbie Williams)  became Artistic Director. Under his leadership, the artistic policy is joyful, irreverent, colorful & very queer.  It’s no wonder why Queerguru loves the place so much\.

This week sees the start of THE TAKEOVER, Sight Unseen Season curated by Isabel Adomakoh Young (a co-founder of PECS Drag King Troupe).  As Guest Artistic Director she is producing an eclectic mix of shows unpacking untold stories & histories with an LGBTQI+ focus.

We have already written about one of them Mary Lacy Woz Queer, but there are two more in the program that are such  ‘much sees’ .

Auntie’s House is the second play from Paul Stone (For Queen and Country)  and is set in 1959 and is based on true events, It’s the tale of Tamina a British Muslim woman who is upset at the abuse suffered by the gay community & opens up her front parlour as a safe space. Not everyone agrees with her especially when it’s revealed her reasons for helping hit close to home.

It celebrates a heart-warming story of compassion and love amongst London’s minority communities, reflecting issues that are still relevant today.

King Dynasty: And now for something totally different: the totally fabulous and exceptionally talented THE BITTEN PEACH.  They are a Pan-Asian Queer Cabaret Collective and their work spans a variety of cabaret art forms on and offstage, including drag, burlesque, dance, comedy, music, spoken word, and circus.

This new show is an epic Drag – Cabaret – Game Show Extravaganza hosted by Sigi Moonlight  and is featuring a variety of exciting acts, ridiculous games & funky, colorful characters.
