Ric Weiland : the LGBTQ+ activist who still keeps on giving

We all need heroes and role models.  Especially in the LGBTQ community.  Most of the ones we have are very colorful and loud.  However, there are some like Rik Weiland who is far from that.  Yet this very quiet private man,  one of the original founders of Microsoft who sadly took his own life in 2006, and is probably the most important queer activist and philanthropist of his generation.

Weiland gave away most of his fortune to so many causes around the world such as  GLAAD,  The Pride Foundation, and The Nature Conservancyamfar was especially near and dear to his heart and life mission as a proud LGBTQ+ activist.

He is the subject of Aaron Bear‘s award-winning documentary Yes I Am, The Ric Weiland Story  that we gave a rave review in April 2021 (https://queerguru.com/yes-i-am-the-ric-weiland-story-a-true-queer-hero/).  We also had the pleasure of interviewing the director https://queerguru.com/aaron-bear-talks-about-yes-i-am-the-ric-weiland-story/

The Film is back on our radar now as there will be a Special Screening at the Harmony Gold Theater in L.A. on December 1st to raise awareness for World AIDS Day 2022. Fundraising proceeds will be donated to amfAR in Ric Weiland’s name and a Q&A with director Aaron Bear & reception will proceed with the film.
