Queerguru’s Jose Mayorgas reviews ‘Charlie Is Not A Boy’   …is a tale untold.

The son of a disreputable butcher and a catatonic mother who neglects him, Charlie reminds me of a white bird. He has a grandmother who nourishes him with fantasy and love; they both share a space that is a sacred nest.

Set within an allegorical America, grotesque relations and situations allow the narrative to flow, revealing aspects of Charlie´s life up to the moment he gets mail, and an opportunity to change.

Visually stunning,  colorful, noteworthy settings, wardrobe, hairdos and make-up,  totally kitsch and campy, the film also features two emblematic tracks: The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson  and GF Handel´s Ronaldo HWV 7A Lascia ch´io pianga (Almirena).

13 minute narrative short film is supported by the Hungarian Film Incentive.  Directed by Pol Kurucz, written by Pablo Larguen and Pol Kurucz, with Brooks Ginnan as Charlie.

World premiere at Slamdance Film Festival Los Angeles, Sunday, February 22, 2026.  8/10
