Queerguru’s Jose Mayorgas reviews ALL THE SILENCE a touching story about trying to live without sound

Miriam  is the daughter of hearing impaired parents,  a sign language  teacher daytime and by night,  an  actress rehearsing as  Arkadina in  Anton Chejov´s The Seagull.  She lives in Mexico City, shares home and is in love with Lola.

The film is an Intimate and powerful drama directed by Diego del Río. Sound design  is  outstanding and  we listen to what Miriam (Adriana Llabres) does, sharing  her daily life, and the  medical diagnosis that she will gradually  become fully deaf.

Her life is changing, she has to make decisions and adjustments to adapt to the times she will live in, particularly in her relationship  with Lola (Ludwika Paleta) who was taught since childhood to overcome her disability through oral communication.

The film is set during COVID pandemic and the use of masks add a layer that interferes with communication, particularly when reading  lips.

This is a story that remains with you for a while, and highlights the boundaries between the normality of listening or not, and shows how is to live in a world where there is all the silence.

PS ALL THE SILENCE is currently streaming on Amazon Prime
