Marco Berger‘s new film in scale of greys has been filmed on location at Tigre, northwest of the city of Buenos Aires, on the Río de la Plata estuary, a place interlaced with numerous rivers and canals of the Paraná River. The spot is an attractive destination for water sports and has vacation homes on wooden stilts by its canals. Paradisiac local flora is shown in the opening credits.
Two couples spend a long weekend in one of the wooden houses at Tigre. While being there, IMDb synopsis states: Juan finds a stray man acting like a dog, he cares for him, and his girlfriend cautions against getting too attached. What we notice at first in this fictional queer romantic drama is two male friends on a boat are calling tenderly to something/someone off camera, and what emerges is a naked, isolated, beautiful specimen that the group address to as a dog in the kind of dreamy story we watch.
Is a German Shepherd perhaps? As it should be, a quiet, well-educated dog remains outside the house. The mute dog/ man named Max likes to be close to Juan and they enjoy the way each other smells, they touch, cares and are kissing constantly, play happily with a ball and take showers. In the group there are references to men as dogs and women as cats.
Jazmin is Juan´s girlfriend and she doesn´t want to have Max in their bed, or take the dog back to Buenos Aires, since the apartment is too small, those are her concerns..
This is a rare animalistic tale of longing and detachment, beautifully shot in the tradition of Berger´s aesthetic of insinuation. Starring German Flood (Juan), Juan Ramos (Max), Bianca Brandimarte, Matías Quiroga and Aldana Dante.
