Last month gay icon Melissa Etheridge shared her new video for “For the Last Time,” the second single from the singer’s upcoming album One Way Out.
The video shows Etheridge and her band recording the bluesy rock track in the studio. On One Way Out, Etheridge revisited nine tracks she wrote and demoed in the late 1980s and early 1990s but never released. “Finally recording and releasing a song about my frustrations with my relationship in the 90’s is very cathartic for me,” Etheridge said in a statement. “That ‘For The Last Time’ rocks so hard is just the icing on the cake.”
Her album is set to drop on September 17thand I can hardly wait to hear the rest of her highness masterpiece.
Co-written and produced by Ryan Tedder, the track “I Want Love,” reminds everyone of Jessie J’s powerhouse vocals that consistently topped the charts in the first half of the 2010s. The song is a lively anthem about, you guessed it, love. Jessie and her collaborators pull from rock, disco, gospel, and dance-pop to create a winning quilt of pop music at its most dramatic and most fervent. ‘I Want Love’ is a bold and empowering return for Jessie J to the pop arena, and one that promises a whole lot of glittery fun ahead.
After a long hiatus, Ed Sheeran recently released his single called “Bad Habits” where he mostly sings about his bad habits of the past and his vices on drinking booze and endless partying. The track is synth-heavy and propelled by a house beat. The sound offers a similar glossy update of 80s dance-pop by way of Daft Punk’s take on house. The beat is quite catchy and although Ed Sheeran does not frequent my Spotify account often – this is undoubtedly a great track!
In honor of Provincetown’s 2021 Carnival theme this week, I would be remiss if I did not end this week’s music reviews with Patti LaBelle’s legendary 1989 performance of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” at the Apollo Theater in NYC. SING IT, SIS!
