Queerguru’s Allison Ananis with her MAYGAY MUSIC PICKS

K.D is BACK!!!! Gay legendary pop icon K.D. Lang just released “If I Were You (Main Mix),” a track from her upcoming album, ‘Makeover.’ The 1995 remix was produced by Junior Vasquez, and the remix video was edited by Dean Kensler from Kevin Kerslake’s original “If I Were You” music video. “With ’If I Were You,’ Lang did more than enhance the promotability of her work to the dance market,” writes journalist Larry Flick. She made good on the promise of her previous club-focused remixes.” Lang said that she had the idea of “putting together a dance remix compilation, as she mused about how we built community in those days before the internet, mobile devices, and dating app. Those dance clubs were a key to a world, which was still called ‘underground’ in the ’90s.” No doubt this entire album will be a hit at every gay-owned establishment all summer long! Queue the sea of shirtless boys and teensy tiny speedos honayyyyyy!

With her fifth album arriving this summer, Willow Smith is giving us the first taste of what to expect, linking up with Travis Barker for the new song ‘t r a n s p a r e n t s o u l’.  The alternative rock track features heavy guitars, with pop-punk superstar Travis Barker of Blink-182 and marks a major personal and professional evolution for Willow. “I am so grateful for this tune because it was created in such an introspective time (during the first couple months of quarantine),” she says. “It was the song that proved to me that I needed to let go of the insecurities I had about making a project of this genre.”  I look forward to listening to her entire album (which I imagine will be full of growth and creativity) when it drops this summer.

Elohim and Big Freedia ooze (and STRUT!) a whole lot of sexiness, sass, and self-confidence in their new video for “Strut.” The song will appear on the Los Angeles-based singer-producer’s upcoming four-part EP, Journey to the Center of Myself, which will be released over the course of the year. “Fuck the sidewalk/It’s a runway,” Elohim commands on the pulsating track. Elohim notes that “‘Strut’ is a daily reminder to all of us, herself included, that the power we hold within ourselves is infinite.” In the infamous words of Billy Porter – LIVE. WORK. POSE!

17-year-old rising star Evann McIntosh is one to have on your radar and your playlist. New single “Nobody Else,” off their upcoming August album Character Development, is easygoing pop made distinctive by Evann’s effervescence and distinguishing voice – not to mention the PRINCEesque influence that’s amazing and fun to watch.
