Queerguru’s Allison Ananis is Kicking Off Christmas with Shakira, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Jess Glynne, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande & Jennifer Hudson

The Black Eyed Peas and Shakira have just released a new music video for their collaborative single, “Girl Like Me,” that pays tribute to Latin women. In the music video, the Peas rap to a glamorous and over the top set, while Shakira dances and shows off her (incredible body!) and skateboarding skills. This collaboration is a gift that keeps on giving!

Lady Gaga’s “911” music video is an enormously powerful and raw exposure of Gaga’s ongoing mental health battle. On her Instagram, Gaga explains to her followers that “this short film is very personal to me, my experience with mental health and the way reality and dreams can interconnect to form heroes within us and all around us.” The video begins with Gaga laying in massively expansive sand dunes in the middle of nowhere and then walks to what appears to be an ancient Aegean village. She manically chants the lyrics “This is biological stasis. My mood’s shifting to manic places. My biggest enemy is me Pop a 911.” The video then dramatically shifts to present day Gaga fighting for her life after suffering a gruesome car crash. There are many parallels to watch for in both of Gaga’s universes – but the most important message is to pay attention to your health (mental or physical); to listen to your body; and never be ashamed to ask for help.

Jess Glynne shares the official music video for her cover of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas” and boy, does she do it justice!  The video depicts all walks of life and every holiday tradition that you can imagine; bringing the single to brilliantly vibrant life and spreading some soulful and much-needed festive joy. Make sure to watch to the end – there is a special shout out to frontline workers to make for a perfect and magical ending.

Let’s be honest – the holiday season really hasn’t officially begun until Mariah Carey is in the mix. Check out the music video for “Oh Santa!” by Mariah Carey featuring Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson.  So festive. So fun. So cute. And I can’t get enough of those high notes that MC still manages to pull off! And don’t even get me started on the incomparable Jennifer Hudson. SLAY QUEEN. (Sorry Ariana – I love you too, gurl – simply hard to compete when next to those two divas!).
