Queerguru’s Allison Ananis April Flowers Music Reviews

After riding a stripper pole to hell in the “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” music video, Lil Nas X has soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lil Nas X’s latest single is his most personal yet, so much so that he even penned a letter to his 14-year-old self about his decision to release it. Its visually controversial music video, which sees him spiral down a stripper pole to hell and seducing the devil, has earned over 96 million views at the time of this writing and, of course, a flurry of reactions online due to its religious imagery. I love when we make right-wing religious conservatives MAD!

Another number one song on the hit list is “Peaches” by Justin Bieber, featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon. “Peaches” is a ballad that highlights Bieber’s sultry vocals, accompanied by a blend of jazzy/pop/R&B baseline. Justin put out the music video for “Peaches” right after releasing the entirety of his most recent album ‘Justice’ to critical acclaim, and it’s a perfect visual interpretation of the song. The video starts out showcasing Justin, GIVEŌN, and Daniel Caesar cruising in a vintage car at night surrounded by neon lights and trippy surroundings. Beyond the driving, intertwined scenes of Justin breaking out into his signature dance moves on brilliantly illuminated stages make the “Peaches” video exactly what you’d expect from a megastar like the Biebs.

Bree Runway is finally back with her first single of 2021, the fiery summer-ready hit “HOT HOT.” From shots of Miss Bree throwing around some serious sexy dance moves at a car wash to steamy shots of the UK Queen twerking in an oily puddle, the music video for “HOT HOT” is just as CALIENTE as her single.

Malia Civetz returns with her new hit “Anybody But You,” a send-off to a former lover who’s wronged her. The Warner Records release is accompanied by a lyric video that puts Civetz’s self-empowering and yes – a bit vengeful lyrics on full display. Civetz wrote on Instagram while previewing the song that “it’s when you finally remember who you are and then you realize they’re literally just not worth your time.” This soul-pop jam is the latest of Civetz’s forthcoming EP Heels in Hand, which is scheduled to drop on April 23rd.
