Queerguru meets PTown’s (Bike) Guru

Rik Ahlberg is a proud Provincetown ‘washashore“.  Technically nearly all of us who have settled in this tip of Cape Cod are too…… including the Pilgrims in 1620….except of course the American Indians the original.  In Ahlberg’s case it’s a term of endearment for a non-native, but sometimes it can be leveled condescendingly by people claiming to be a Mayflower descendent.

Ahlberg was a high-flying tech wizard in Boston who a decade ago felt so burned out by big city life that he moved to PTown full-time after summering here for several years.  The 51-year-old American of Swedish descent completely embraced the near-solitude of winters on the Cape to establish a new life based on his other passions (besides PTown).

Queerguru first met Ahlberg when we were working with PTV Community Television Station and he was our director and videographer when we got to interview the likes of Margaret Cho, Larry Kramer, Tab Hunter, Jennifer Coolidge, Edie Windsor etc.

But Ahlberg’s real love (he’s single at the moment!) is all things to do with bikes and sharing all his new-found local knowledge.  Thanks to his sterling efforts chairing the Town’s Bicycling Committee, PTown, now a cycling paradise, was just named  No. 1 small city for biking in the U.S.

In 2019 Ahlberg started Pedal PTown Bike Tours. This private tour grants exclusive access to places and people that make Ptown unique. Ahlberg as the guide provides an insider look at local art, culture, and history.  It was an immediate success, so much so that according to his website 2021 tours are already fully booked.  But if you read all of his 5-star reviews, you’ll understand why.

Encouraged by the success this year  Ahlberg added PROVINCETOWN INSTAGRAM TOUR which takes you to the best spots around town for great photos! Provincetown is one of the most photographed places on Cape Cod, and incredibly popular on Instagram. On this narrated tour, you get directions to all of the top Instagram spots, with tips for composing a great shot, and lots of bonus shots to make lasting memories of your visit to town.

Plus PROVINCETOWN PUBLIC ART TOUR . Ptown is the country’s longest-running art colony – artists have been flocking here for over 100 years to paint, sculpt, and create in the inspiring light surrounding the Cape’s tip. On Ahlberg’s Tour, you hear the stories behind these silly and serious installations on this narrated tour of outdoor art.

Now this washashore has (rightly) claimed the title PTOWN INSIDER and he produces extremely informative videos on tips of where to eat, shop, and even party. He’s doing a much better job than the Official Tourist Office because his passion for PTown always shines through.

We couldn’t think of a better person to profile than him in our new series Following Your Dream. The best part of Ahlberg’s is that he invites you to share it with him
