Queerguru checks out SUGARWOOD the sexiest Bakery in NY

I think it was  1999 on a trip to Greenwich Village when I fell in love. Hard and deep. Not with anything living or breathing but with this super soft cupcake topped with an enormous swirl of buttercream.  I wasn’t alone as on some weekends when  I was in town there was actually a very long line at the Magnolia Bakery  in Bleeker Street.

Fast forward the love affair is still not over  …… not at my hand, but the Bakery has gone to bigger and better things and is now a Chain!   To get me out of my (sugar) depression my friends told me that it was time to move on and grow up and suggested I try a new adult-themed bakery  in Prince Street the best part of all was that one of the founders was Magnolia Bakery executive and celebrity baker Tom Smallwood.

Sugar Wood, known as the sexist bakery opened this summer and is serving up waffle Woodys (penis-shaped) or Kittys (vagina shaped). Fresh and hot they’ll be dripping… in a variety of sweet sauces including milk chocolate, peanut butter, salted caramel, strawberry, and white chocolate

We talked to cofounder Austin Allen ( he’s the one grinning and wearing the pink apron ) who said he os excited to bring their “silly, fun and lighthearted” shop to Soho.  (He also confided that his personal preferences were for Woodys.}  BUt he and Tim have good hearts too.  Sugar Wood has pledged to donate a minimum of $1,000 of its monthly revenue to the Phluid Phoundation and its aligned charities such as Ali Forney Center and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute.

Austin gave us a couple of tips IF you don’t want to be seen with a woody in your mouth in the street (as if ) you can order to go or delivery.  And if you haven’t decided what turns you up yet then Austin told us you can half woody’s and half kitty’s and even mix u the sauces too.  Evidently, they cater to so many different tastes.  And if you are even shyer then instead of chomping on a phallus in public then buy a t-shirt or Tote bag in the gift store so you can boast you’ve been.

The store has been an amazing success in these first few months and the owners are already fundraising for 2nd location probably in LA or Vegas.

Final word goes to Austin Everybody needs a little levity right now because we are living through some heavy times. Our intention isn’t to be vulgar, gross or pornographic but to be silly, fun and lighthearted. And do a little good in the world.”
