Queerguru becomes a Sponsor of the 35th Edition of Atlanta’s prestigious OUT ON FILM queer Film Festival

Out On Film, Georgia’s gay film festival in Atlanta was established in 1987 and is one of the oldest gay film festivals in the United States devoted to the LGBTQ+ community. What started as a five-day festival has grown into an eleven-day celebration of LGBTQ stories and artists including narrative features, documentaries, short films, and premieres.

Out on Film’s mission is to provide a high-quality film festival that is diverse and inclusive, ensuring that all in our community are represented.  Some of the films shown are meant merely for entertainment, but many others – especially the documentaries – are meant to educate and address timely issues such as discrimination and social justice, HIV/AIDS, religion, and marriage equality.

The Festival has been the recipient of many awards, including a grant from the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the Oscars®) in 2013 for its visiting filmmaker series..  In 2020 they became an Oscar® qualifying film festival, one of only two LGBTQ film festivals in the U.S. and one of only six LGBTQ film festivals in the world. This means that the film that wins our Jury Award for Best Drama Shorts is now eligible for consideration for the next year’s Academy Awards®.

On the eve of their 35th Edition, they were named as the top film festival in the nation by the readers of USA Today and 10Best. To have that honor is an amazing testament to those filmmakers, sponsors, and patrons who have supported us them these years, and the staff and volunteers who keep hungry to grow every season.

Jim Farmer the Festival Director told Queergurur People always ask me why it’s still important to host an LGBTQ film festival. At a time when our community is under attack, it is vital to bring us all together and provide a safe haven – and offer positive portrayals of our entire community.

It's therefore a great honor and privilege that this
year QUEERGURU has become an Official Media
Sponsor to OUT ON FILM.

We are in the process of reviewing many of the films in the diverse program: so watch this space for when our Team comes up with their TOP PICKS OF MUST SEE FILMS
