The QUEER ECOJUSTICE PROJECT’s Website opens with a powerful and thought-provoking statement from Javier Armando Rivera-Rosales the former Director of Positive Images LGBTQ+ Youth Center during the 2017 fires in Santa Rosa, CA
“People don’t see the connection between climate climate change and the treatment of queer and trans peopleWe need to start having different conversations about how to address the powerful changes that need to happen for us to survive and to thrive as a community, as a people, as a species. |
So the Project created a must-see documentary to get the message out there in our community
Fire & Flood: Queer Residence In the Era of Climate Change tells the story of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and the fires in Santa Rosa, California, two-near simultaneous climate-related disasters in the fall of 2017, through the voices of LGBTQ people who lived through them and were part of the community response. The film explores the vulnerability of LGBTQ communities to climate disasters and also lifts up queer and trans strategies for resilience, transition, and survival.
The Film is being Screened FREE at Providence Library on Feb 25th @ 6.30 pm followed by a Panel Discussion . Panelists include local and regional environmental justice advocates. The panel discussion will revolve about the film, climate change’s impact in Rhode Island, and the intersectionality within the climate justice movement, specifically with regards to the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities. Participants will be able to ask panelists questions during the event.
